Hello, I have provided all of the sources needed please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you
This assignment will allow you to reflect on your reading by Amy Tucker, entitled “The Museum as Context.” This reading was assigned in the 4th week of class and you had the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of Tucker’s main points in the week’s journal entry.
Now, you will visit an art museum to see if you can put this information to use. For this assignment you will need to visit a major art museum (natural history, aerospace, or other museums where art is not the primary focus are not acceptable for this assignment). In Denver you may want to choose the Museum of Contemporary Art, Clyfford Still, Denver Art Museum, the Kirkland Museum of Fine and Decorative Art, or MSU Denver’s own Center for Visual Art. If you live outside of the Denver area you will want to research the major art institutions near you and select one of them for your field trip.
Once you have selected your museum you should review “The Museum as Context” and be prepared to take notes during your visit. On page 92 of her chapter, Tucker suggests visiting a museum or gallery exhibition and considering a series of questions, such as: “What is the theme of the display? How are the items related, arranged, and mounted? […] What role do labels, wall texts, and brochures play in shaping the viewer’s experience?” Reflect on these and similar questions posed by Tucker in her chapter or use what you have learned to form your own questions for analysis.
Finally, write a 3-5 page paper describing your experience of the museum as a whole (or, if you wish, a single exhibition within the museum context) in relation to the chapter you have read. Your paper should be formatted with 1″ margins, double-spaced, in Times New Roman or Arial font. You will be assessed on how well you understood Tucker’s chapter and applied her ideas to the analysis of your chosen museum or exhibition. The quality of your argument is dependent on its clarity; therefore, correct usage of spelling, grammar, and syntax will be considered as part of your grade. Refer to the Museum Paper grading rubric before writing your paper to make sure you understand the assignment requirements and expectations. Remember, it is perfectly fine and appropriate to quote Tucker as a part of your own paper, but if you do be sure to use quotation marks and provide adequate citation in order to avoid issues of plagiarism.
