After listening to the podcast, answer the following in your assignment: Following the case study rubric, (Executive Summary, Findings and Situation, Analysis and Alternatives, Recommendations) Evaluate the situation at Memorial during Hurricane Katrina. You can certainly discuss the other aspects of the podcast to compare and contrast, for example the oxygen rationing in Haiti. You are not limited to situations in the podcast, of course, you can bring in any others you think are helpful.
In your analysis, alternatives, and recommendations, examine the ethics of the Memorial crisis through the three ethical approaches discussed in Chapter 3: Utilitarianism, Principle-based Ethics, and Virtue Ethics (there are several subcategories in some of these which you could apply if you wish). Would you arrive at different result under each ethical approach or the same result?
Finally, for class discussion next week, I’d like to know what you think about using a podcast. you don’t need to write it up, but think about it. Was it helpful to illustrate the theories? Also, think about how these concepts would apply to the business environment. You might not be operating in life-and-death situations like these, but what would be some examples in which you would have to make a choice that you might not wish to make?
