A statement of personal philosophy of education is a reflective piece that summarizes your core educational beliefs: the purpose, process, and ideals of education.
Consider the following prompts as you pull together your core educational beliefs:
The true purpose of school.
The role of the teacher in learning.
How students best learn.
What it should be taught in school (knowledge, skills, and dispositions).
To complete this assignment,
Read about the major philosophies of education. Review chapter 6 of the text. Please also consult outside resources.
Think about your own approach and experiences in education. Make a list of all of the things that are important to you as a student and to you as a future teacher. Consider why you think these elements are important.
Write a 2-3 page paper (must be a Word document) in which you discuss your beliefs and explain which educational philosophies resonate with you the most and why. Your paper should describe your core beliefs about teaching and learning and how these beliefs will be enacted in the classroom. Remember to cite the sources that you used to help you develop your ideas or that inspired your teaching philosophy in APA format. You should have a minimum of 3 sources (one of which should be the textbook).
