You will write about the two artifacts that you chose, one text-based, one non-text-based. So basically, a first draft of your rhetorical analysis of two field artifacts.
Include,
• an introduction where you state and explain:
◦ the field-related issue you’re interested in, and why you’re interested in this issue
◦ some -two or three would do- genres that your field typically uses to communicate about this issue
◦ the artifacts you have chosen, and why you have chosen them: why do they best suit the assignment? Briefly! You will have the space to talk at length about their features, genre elements, and practice your rhetorical analysis in your rough body paragraph drafts.
• one or two body paragraphs – the point is to write about both artifacts, not just one.
◦ Using the strategies outlined in the assigned reading, practice annotating your artifact. Think back to your invention homework and the features, elements you identified – think of the examples and key terms you saw in the BBG and AWR (here’s the homework link for relevant pages you can consult about rhetorical analysis cues – list of six potential artifacts) (you can use your homework to draw on the ideas there but you’re analyzing only two artifacts now! The homework was just to allow you to see and consider your options. At this point, you should have decided which two artifacts you’ll work on.)
◦ This is only the first draft – you can choose one or two elements, write about them thoroughly, in detail. Or you can choose several elements you plan to focus on in more detail in future drafts, and for now, write briefly on them, one or two sentences for each. Whether you concentrate on a small number of elements, or consider a broader range of elements in less detail, is up to you. You can change it in the upcoming drafts.
