For this project you will conduct a vulnerability assessment of your home computer. If you do not have a separate home computer, you can conduct on your school laptop. For this project you will download Nessus ( https://www.tenable.com/downloads/ ) to conduct your vulnerability scans. Verify (drop down arrow) that you are downloading the latest version, and then choose your platform. During the installation process you will be required to fill out a form to receive a License Key. This community Edition is free and will allow you to scan up to 10 ip addresses. Highly recommend you download early in the course so that if there are any issues we can resolve soonest.
Once installed you can either scan your entire network or just the machine you will be using for this project. Of course, it is recommended that you scan your entire network as an assessment of your security.
For the project you will be required to:
Scan the project machine(s)
Provide screenshot(s) of the vulnerability page(s)
Provide in 5-10 pages a discussion of those vulnerabilities deemed as critical and why, and the remediations. If you decide to scan more than one machine indicate which of your machines was the most vulnerable and why you believe that is. If you decide not to implement any of the mitigations provide an explanation as to your reasoning.
