1. You will construct a 4 – 5-page paper which must follow APA 7th Edition guidelines (professional version) and adhere to the academic integrity policy of the University.

1. Read the case scenario included below. Once you have read the scenario, please address the following points in your work.
a. Provide an introduction that includes a strong description of heteronormativity and how it impacts individuals, society and the larger social environment.
b. Using heteronormativity as a lens, provide an overview of the issues that Camille is facing in their personal life and in their social environment. Also, provide an explanation of how heteronormativity impacts Camille’s ability to access needed services.
c. Using the readings from this week, identify a different lens from which to assess the issues Camille is facing in their personal life and in their social environment. Provide an explanation for why you identified this lens and how the lens you identified can assist Camille in accessing needed services.
d. In the final section of the paper, you will need to summarize all aspects of the previous content you created (conclusion) and then provide a significant reflection about what you learned and how what you learned will impact your professional practices moving forward.
Clay is a 51-year-old sales associate who began the legal process of changing his gender to female. She prefers the name Camille and her preferred pronouns are she/her/hers. Camille was born with male genitals and was socialized as a male by her family. During childhood, she began experiencing isolation from peers, and was commonly referred to as a “sissy” by others in school. Camille formed relationships with girls at her school and intentionally selected activities that were historically considered “female centric”. Camille excelled in tennis, and was able to enjoy a few other sports. Camille’s parents were strict and never accepted what they considered to be Camille’s “tendencies”. Camille did well in college and also had a girlfriend who she married following their college graduation. Even though Camille felt she had a good life, she was never fully happy. Camille’s life never felt like it “matched” her internal feelings and she always felt better when she was able to express herself as Camille. Over the years, she began to feel consistently unhappy with herself for not being authentic and honest with her family. Camille sought treatment from a mental health provider and was able to open up about her life experiences and how she felt better when she was able to express herself as Camille. The environment created by the mental health provider allowed Camille to discuss her feelings in more detail, leading her to open up to her close friends. Camille asked her friends to refer to her as Camille. Camille also opened up about how being able to express herself as Camille allowed her a better quality of life and increased her overall health and wellbeing. Camille continued working with her mental health provider to gain the courage to disclose to her wife and family. Camille also received a referral to a physician who could assist her in accessing hormone therapy and the future possibility of surgery. Camille expressed that one of her primary concerns is how to disclose to her family and what their response to the information will be.
