Aim of the Assessment:
The aim of this assessment is analyse and evaluate the impact of internal and external
environmental factors on business operations and to develop an understanding of how these
factors can influence the success or failure of a business.

The analysis and evaluation of the internal and external business environment
You are required to select a company listed on the NZX50 and report on the following:
1. Using the Porter’s five forces model provide an assessment of the company’s
competitive environment. (20 marks)
2. Apply the PESTEL framework to analyse the macro-environmental factors that may
impact on the company you have chosen. (20 marks)
3. Including the results of your analysis for questions 1 and 2 conduct a SWOT analysis for
your chosen company. (25 marks)
4. Outline the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and comment on the
CSR initiatives of the company you have selected. (25 marks)
You will need to justify your findings by referring to source materials such as statements
made in the company’s annual reports. Ten marks are awarded for correct referencing
and clear written expression.
